With Mother’s Day coming up, it got me thinking. As a mom, how often are you actually in photos with your kids? My guess is the answer is, “Not much at all.”
I understand why. When you’re out doing a family activity, it’s hectic. You’ll probably tell your kids a few times, “Hi! Smile over here at Mom! No, don’t look over there. Look at Mom for a second so I can get a photo.”
Just taking one photo of your kids is exhausting. Having to get another photo with you in it doesn’t sound appealing. You’ve been running around with your kids all day. Your hair is a mess. Who wants a picture of that. Right?
The answer is: your kids do. They don’t care what your hair looked like that day or if you were wearing any makeup. They want to see Mom in the photos, and not just Dad so they can remember all of those amazing memories growing up. Think about it. What are your favorite photos from when you grew up? I’m guessing they are the ones with your family.
My challenge to you this Mother’s Day is to get a photo with just you and your kids. And don’t do this only on Mother’s Day. Try to make an effort to be in more photos with your kids. The next time you book a professional photo session, make sure to get in some photos with your kids. A photo session with me as your photographer is the perfect time to get candid photos of you hugging, kissing, laughing, and playing with your kids. These are photos that you and your kids will cherish forever.
