Taking Michael & Kate’s engagement photos was so much fun. Because I’m a Chicago romantic wedding photographer, I loved coming up with unique ideas and locations for this country chic engagement session in Clear Lake, Indiana.

The photo above is one of my favorites from this country chic engagement session. I love how the apples and leaves on the tree frame the couple.

Every year, my family and I spend a holiday weekend in Clear Lake, Indiana. My sister and I decided  that it would be a great place to take her engagement photos.

Since we aren’t that familiar with the area, we drove around a little bit to scout out photo locations. When we saw a red barn by the side of the road, we stopped. The doors were painted in a shape that almost looked like a heart.

It probably is a little bit odd to have a complete stranger walk up to you and say, “Hey, can I take my sister’s engagement photos on your farm?” But the farmer I introduced myself to was nice and welcoming. He let me take photos of my sister and her fiance in his apple orchard, and by his barn. His property in Clear Lake, Indiana is beautiful, and unique. 

During the session, we drove by this wheat field. As soon as I saw it, I had my sister turn the car around. It was the perfect backdrop. I love the muted tones of the wheat. I have really bad allergies, but there was no way I could pass up this location. 

Kate and Michael are getting married this June at Dunham Woods Riding Club in Wayne, Illinois. 

At the end of the engagement session, we headed back to the lake at just the right time. Sunset.
