As Chicago Proposal photographers, we loved capturing this proposal on the Chicago Riverwalk for Evan and Julia. These two have been dating a little over 5 years, and met while attending college in Boston. They moved to Chicago a year ago.

Evan had this to say about his experience with me photographing his proposal to Julia.

She did a walkthrough with me a few days before to make sure we had everything set up, and on the day of the proposal she did a great job of keeping it a surprise when we showed up to the spot we’d picked. The Proposal Story Captured by Chicago Proposal Photographers

Evan knew the perfect location for his proposal to Julia. It was where they first said, “I love you.” On an unexpected 70 degree fall day in Chicago, Evan and Julia made the walk from her apartment to the Chicago Riverwalk where she thought they would catch their boat cruise.

Julia wanted to grab coffee on the way, but Evan was insistent that they make their boat cruise on time 😉

When they walked down to the river, Evan got down on one knee, and asked Julia to marry him. Applause came from passersby. She brought her hands to her face as she teared up and said, “I had no idea.”

After the proposal, Evan and Julia hugged, kissed, and had a quite moment together. Evan said he really appreciated how I gave them the space and time to process and savor that special moment.

A Boat Cruise After All

We then headed down the riverwalk taking pictures, and enjoying a 70 degree October day in Chicago. How often does that happen?

As we headed down the riverwalk taking pictures, there was one final surprise for Julia. We turned the corner, and walking out of a gelato shop were Evan and Julia’s parents and siblings. Julia started crying as she ran to her mom for a hug. After lots more hugs, and showing everyone the ring, Julia had another surprise.

Down by the river, there was a boat waiting for them. Julia would end up going on a boat cruise after all. As they took off from the pier, everyone waved as they went off to celebrate. Congrats, Evan and Julia!
