When I arrived at Apogee Lounge, a rooftop bar in Chicago, I was beyond excited. In less than an hour, a very special couple was going to get engaged. As a Chicago surprise proposal photographer, I enjoyed capturing this moment for Kevin and Kelly.

One of the things I love about photographing proposals, is how much anticipation and excitement there is leading up to it. I kept peering into my purse where my camera was hidden, and then every so often gazed onto the rooftop waiting for when Kevin would surprise Kelly.

Kelly sat on the rooftop lounge while sipping a frosé and hanging out with her friends. She thought it was just a girls’ night out, while her boyfriend, Kevin, was out of town on a business trip.

Suddenly, Kevin walked through the glass doors, and onto the rooftop where Kelly was sitting with her friends. When Kelly noticed who had arrived, she was surprised, but still didn’t suspect anything. She thought it was so sweet of her boyfriend to surprise her by coming home a day early from his business trip.

Then, Kelly’s feeling of surprise, turned into astonishment, as Kevin held out his hand and led her over to the center of the rooftop, with the Chicago skyline in the background, and proposed.

Throughout the whole process of planning the proposal, Kevin had a very important goal in mind. He wanted Kelly to be completely surprised, and to not have even the slightest suspicion. Well Kevin, I think it’s safe to say that you accomplished your goal. It’s clear in these photos just how surprised Kelly was 🙂After the proposal, Kevin and Kelly got an applause from everyone at the rooftop bar, and even got hugs and congratulations from Kelly’s friends who were also there to witness the special moment.

When Kevin pointed me out to Kelly, she was once again surprised. One of my goals for every proposal that I photograph, is to not be noticed until you point me out 😉 This is such a special moment, and I try to be as stealthy as possible so the surprise proposal stays a surprise 🙂

Kevin and Kelly hung out at Apogee Lounge together after the proposal, and savored the moment together. A place they had gone to while dating, now had the special memory of being the place where they got engaged.

Before meeting up with family and friends to celebrate at Prosecco, one of their favorite restaurants in Chicago, Kevin and Kelly had some cocktails at Apogee Lounge. They were incredibly thoughtful and treated me to a drink as well. A frosé (frozen rose). They are seriously the sweetest couple.
