As a Barrington wedding photographer, I had a great time taking engagement photos for my best friend, Alexis, and her husband, DJ last year. These two got married this past Saturday at the Mirage Banquets in Schiller Park.

Since I was a member of the wedding party, I didn’t photograph my best friend’s special day. I’m glad that I was able to capture her engagement photos though, and be fully present on Saturday to celebrate this important day in her life!

Alexis is always thinking about others. I’ll never forget the one summer in high school, when she invited me to go to Six Flags with her family. A few days before, I called her to cancel since I had a summer reading project to finish.

“Chelsey you have to go. We already bought your ticket.”

I found out later that this was a lie. She was planning on setting me up with her cousin, John, so canceling just wasn’t an option.

Well it’s 9 years later, and that was one of the best lies I’ve ever been told. Because…I ended up marrying him. Thanks, Alexis!

In high school we used to joke that someday we’d be cousin-in-laws. To our delight, years later that ended up happening. But the truth is, I considered Alexis family even before that. Over the years, she invited me to backyard family barbecues without hesitation, and was one of the few friendships in my life that I knew would last.As one of her best friends, I know I had high expectations for who she would marry. When I heard that DJ was moving from Kansas to be with her, I knew that all of my expectations had been exceeded.

I think another sign that she made the right choice, is how DJ treats the people in her life. Recently my car wouldn’t start, and I called DJ. He drove all the way out to my house, and fixed my car on his day off. He didn’t complain once.

Alexis is thoughtful and caring, but I also saw that day how DJ exemplifies these qualities as well. I might be a little biased or have a hidden agenda, since DJ has now been dubbed my on call Toyota mechanic, but Alexis, I’m so glad you chose DJ. And DJ, I’m glad you chose Alexis.

Congrats, Alexis and DJ! I am so happy for you two, and can’t wait to see where the love you have for each other will take you in life.
